YouTube Brings "Dark Mode" To iOS App

YouTube Brings

Our first hint of serious work towards a dark mode for YouTube landed last fall, when we saw signs of a dark theme for the app's video-playback panel.

To access the new theme, tap your account icon on the top right, select "Settings", then select "Dark Theme".

Google is rolling out its dark theme update to iOS users today, and plans to release the update to Android users "soon". The feature does exactly the same on desktop, changing the background color to black.

Google also teased the feature as recently as January, when the dark mode was found within the app's code. Those on desktop can now activate the feature by clicking the three dots on the top right corner and then dark theme. The playback screen featured a more consistent skinning, and we already saw developers fine-tuning the shades of dark gray tones being employed.

If you don't see the option for the dark theme right away, be patient - YouTube says that the update will be rolling out "over the next few days". At the time, the feature wasn't made available to all users, nor was it officially announced by the company.

Dark theme is not just a cool addition, it can be easier on the eyes of users after a long period of time. Now, we know that it is on iOS and that it will soon be debuting on Android. Have you ever opened the YouTube app in the middle of the night?

What do you think about this feature?
