Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane confirms Manchester United "contact"

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane confirms Manchester United

As for De Gea, United boss Jose Mourinho believes the Spaniard will be going nowhere this summer, admitting prior to the shock Champions League exit to Sevilla on Tuesday night: "I see him here - I don't know what the intentions are of Real Madrid but they should think about another player".

The France worldwide has always been linked with a move to Old Trafford, especially since former Real boss Jose Mourinho took over as United manager in 2016, per AS.

Varane, 24, joined Real from French club Lens in 2011 ahead of Mourinho's second season in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu.

When asked about contact from Mourinho, he told El Larguero: "No, not directly".

United have been interested in Varane since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, and have continued to keep tabs on the Frenchman despite multiple failed attempts to prise him away from Real Madrid.

The centre-back has previously spoken of the "special relationship" he enjoyed with Mourinho, a factor that has often been used to link Varane with a move to United, per L'Equipe (via Ben Nagle of MailOnline).

Varane also had praise for a United star in Romelu Lukaku, lauding the Belgium striker for how hard he made life for opponents.

"One day when I leave, the next Manchester United manager will find here Lukaku, Matic, of course De Gea from many years ago", he said. It is pure power. When it is stronger I try to pass in front, that I cannot play.

"Lukaku, for example. He is the strongest forward in the world". "They will find players with a different mentality, quality, background, with a different status, know-how". I try to be more complete to annoy any striker'.
