Sega Mega Drive Mini Unleashing This Year

Sega Mega Drive Mini Unleashing This Year

Announced at Sega Fes 2018, the Sega Ages lineup is now set to include over 15 titles from the Master System and Genesis libraries.

These include company mascot platformer Sonic the Hedgehog, Thunder Force 4, Phantasy Star and more to be announced.

According to Famitsu (via Forbes), development of the new Mega Drive Mini will be handled by Sega. These Sega Ages title will certainly roll out sometime later this year, preferably summer.

You can check out a delightfully retro 15-second announcement trailer below.

That said, M2 will be handling the porting of these upcoming games, so this is really a good news. The reassurance from Mullen that we'll see some "eclectic arcade titles" is nice, too, promising that even die-hard Sega fans might find some brand new old games to mix with their favorites.

Those who have enjoyed the SEGA Ages releases over the years either on PS2 or the most recent 3DS entries, they certainly know that M2 never ceases to disappoint.

You can see the full list of games in the gallery below. Although it seems like this partnership might be to manufacture a Sega Retro console. Unfortunately, the company did not disclose more details, such as price or release date, nor gave clues about the titles that will accompany it; it was only confirmed that its launch aims to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original launch, which took place in October 1988 in Japan.
