US Refuses UK Involvement in Syria Chemical Attack

The UK Cabinet agreed at a meeting on Thursday that Syrian President Bashar Assad's government was highly likely responsible for the alleged chemical attack and that Prime Minister Theresa May should coordinate the response to the incident with the United States and France.

The cabinet is expected to support May to join a possible military action by the USA and its allies against the Syrian regime without seeking a parliamentary approval.

The BBC said May was ready to give the go-ahead for Britain to take part in action led by the USA without seeking prior approval from parliament, and the Financial Times said the cabinet had agreed to this.

May has indicated she wants Britain to join in any USA -led strikes in response to the attack in Douma.

Britain's government weighed the possibility of military action against Syria on Thursday, agreeing the "need to take action" despite polls showing the public remains wary of military intervention.

Later, May's office said she had spoken with Trump by telephone, and the two had agreed it was vital to challenge Assad's use of chemical weapons, and that they would continue to work closely together to do so. The Downing Street statement did not mention parliament, and a spokeswoman did not comment on those reports.

The mission was only allowed after approval by MPs - they backed military action in Iraq in September 2014, and in Syria a year later, strictly limiting strikes to IS targets.

"But parliament must be involved before any military action is agreed".

Opposition Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable told the BBC that parliament "can and should be recalled immediately" to hold a vote on the latest possible action.

Further, the Russian ministry has also claimed to have certain evidence proving the direct involvement of the U.S. in Syria chemical attack. She changed her tone speaking to reporters Wednesday afternoon, insisting that "all the indications" were that the Assad regime was responsible for the "shocking, barbaric" attack.
