Bayern Munich send Champions League warning to Real Madrid

The No.10's availability is good news for Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes, who will be replaced by Niko Kovac at the end of the season.

Hoeness responded after Bayern's 5-1 rout of Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday, telling Sky TV, "We deliberately didn't say anything about it yesterday because we found the comments of Fredi Bobic to be quite outrageous".

Former Croatia captain and boss Kovac played for Bayern from 2001 to 2003.

"Neither we [Manchester City] nor Barcelona are in the semi-finals, so I will support Bayern, I hope they have the luck they deserve", Guardiola said about the club he managed before arriving in the Premier League.

Kicker magazine reported that Bayern would pay a fee of 2.2 million euros ($2.7 million) to trigger a release clause in Kovac's existing contract with Frankfurt.

At a news conference later Friday, the older Kovac said he had mixed feelings about leaving Frankfurt, but "not many coaches, not many players" get an opportunity at Bayern.

However. Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the following day that an agreement has been made. The 44-year-old Robert Kovac also previously played for the club. "Not of Eintracht Frankfurt".

'He told us that he had already decided. "They did their thing and thought of themselves".

With the news that Jupp Heynckes will leave the position as manager, his players marked the new appointment in style as Sandro Wagner grabbed a brace to cancel out Josip Drmic's ninth-minute opener for Monchengladbach.

Frankfurt now lie in 6th place in the Bundesliga, five points away from Champions League qualification, with four games to go.

The Croat, who had also coached his country at the last World Cup in Brazil, had impressed by helping Frankfurt survive relegation in 2016 before leading them to contention for a European slot for next season.

Bayern was initially in talks with former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, but he informed the club that he had agreed to take over another team while it was still trying to convince Heynckes to stay. However, the Suddeutsche newspaper claimed that Bayern met Kovac two weeks ago to discuss the job.

When it comes to the matches against Real Madrid, the Champions League winners in the past two years, Heynckes admitted to having mixed feelings.
