BJP paying only lip service to Dalits: Congress

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in a late night tweet on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for breaking his silence on the rape cases and demanded that the latter should also specify a timeline for the justice promised to the victims. Wherever we see, woman and children are getting raped and murdered. "This is a national issue and not a political one", said Rahul at the march towards the India Gate.

"This country is outraged over the repeated attacks on women and the repeated protection of the accused by the BJP government". Ashok Gehlot, in-charge of the organisation said Congress units in every State will be holding candlelight vigils to highlight crimes against women. "In no way are they standing with the weaker section of the society", she said, adding that incidents of atrocities on Dalits were on rise in India. "We are very thankful to the prime minister that he has spoken at least, even if he spoke after three months of Kathua and after weeks of Unnao and even if he has spoken at the beck and call of opposition parties like us".

In a tweet on Friday, Rahul said: "Thousands of men and women stood up to be counted in the battle for justice and to protest the rising acts of violence against girls and women", Rahul tweeted today.

Talking to reporters here this evening, he dismissed NCP's ongoing "Hallabol" rallies saying they were nothing but trips of their senior leaders in AC coaches and this would not any adverse effect on BJP's performance. The party said the PM's "Beti Bachao, Beti Padao" slogan had become "Beti ko BJP se bachao (save daughters from BJP)". If you can not behave, go home. Madhav said, "such crimes (Kathua) are inhuman and any attempt to communalise them needs to be condemned unequivocally". "All this while ignoring the strict action being taken by state governments", said Meenakshi Lekhi of the BJP.

The Kathua girl, who belonged to the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community, had disappeared from a spot near her house on January 10.

She was sedated and repeatedly raped before her head was smashed and her body thrown in the forests next to Rasana village. The BJP is not only involved directly, it is also protesting in favour of the culprits and stopping law enforcement agencies from doing their job.
