Red Sox Beat O's For Franchise-Best 12-2 Start

It's the 12th victory in 14 tries for the Red Sox, with only the 1918 team previously in position to do the same.

With AP Photos.Eduardo Nunez hit a three-run homer, Eduardo Rodriguez struck out eight over six stingy innings and the Boston Red Sox equaled their best start in 100 years with a 7-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox started fast as they've done frequently this season.

"After the surgery I felt like a release - my shoulder was free and I knew right away I was going to be able to do whatever I want", Ramirez said. "We're proud of what they're doing right now".

Their starting pitching continues to shine.

Rodriguez lasted just 3 2/3 innings Sunday in his season debut against Tampa Bay, allowing three earned runs and five hits. He kept the O's scoreless until the fifth inning. Numbers like that don't lie, and I think you have to take the Red Sox on the run line to maximize the value of the bet.

Andrew Benintendi drove in Mookie Betts with a double off the wall to start the scoring.

- Betts left the game after an injury sustained during an ugly home-plate collision in the first inning.

Then Ramirez stepped up and jacked a hanging slider over the Green Monster for a no-doubter.

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski fielded questions about Ramirez as early as the general managers' meetings last November.

Cobb was born in Boston, and even though he moved from the area to Florida when he was 2, he remained a Red Sox fan. Sometimes we get caught up in the protection part of it, but obviously, when J.D.is swinging the bat, (the three spot) is a good spot.

By then, manager Alex Cora had already decided that Ramirez was going to be the team's No.?3 hitter.

"You know when you visit someone and they're confident and they tell you things you want to hear?"

"A lot of things change when you come from the minor leagues to the big leagues, even the weather that he came from", Showalter said. I'll be fine.' I'll go back to previous year. "I still remember, I saw him at that clinic in Miami", Cora said. The 25-year old third baseman is locked in, driving in eight runs in his last seven games including two RBI's in Friday's loss to Boston, and he is now hitting.316 with three homers and eight RBI's on the season. When he's locked in and healthy, he's very unsafe. J.D. Martinez had a pair of hits and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly during Boston's four-run first inning, which put the Red Sox in command on the way to their 11th victory in 12 games. Cobb left a hanging breaking ball up and Martinez flicked it into the Sox' bullpen. Benintendi's two-run single to center, an RBI double to left by Ramirez and a second Manny Machado error of the day at short made the rest of this one all but academic.

"We got some guys that can drive the ball all over the place", Cora said after the game.

Sale dominated the Yankees during his last start and allowed just a single run on eight hits over six innings to go with eight strikeouts.

Blake Swihart replaced Betts and went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Brock Holt went 2 for 4 with a double and Tzu-Wei Lin matched that mark at the dish while Jackie Bradley Jr. and Sandy Leon added base hits of their own in the winning effort.

"I think you can always play better, you can find those little things you need to work on, but yeah we're hot right now", Benintendi said.
