Unnao rape victim's family alleges harassment by BJP MLA's goons

On Saturday night, the Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI arrested a woman in connection with the Unnao gang-rape case. He was charged under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (abduction of woman), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

His lawyer, Satyendra Singh did not oppose the CBI's application, saying, "We are willing to cooperate with the CBI in the investigation".

THE CBI is trying to verify the claim of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar that he was attending a birthday function in Kanpur city at the time he was alleged to have committed rape on June 4, 2017.

Meanwhile, Sengar has been sent to a seven-day CBI custody on Saturday.

The after effects of the gruesome rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu Kashmir's Kathua district is felt in the Chengannur constituency, where a bypoll will be held shortly. The accused MLA was formally arrested around 10pm on Friday.

Later on Sunday, her father was picked up by the police and allegedly beaten up in custody by the MLA's brother Atul Singh and his aides, following which he died.

With opposition led by Congress mounting a massive attack, BJP's image has suffered a considerable blow.




Sources told Rising Kashmir that Mehbooba has accepted the resignation of the two BJP ministers and forwarded it to the Governor N N Vohra.

Citing a recent high court order, Surjewala said: "In a damning rebuke to the BJP's claims, the Allahabad High Court has unravelled the real truth of the Unnao rape case".

"We, including the BJP which is in the government, will ensure justice for the girl and punishment for the culprits", he said.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP are the parties which jointly rule the trouble-torn State of Jammu & Kashmir.

BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav said there was indiscretion on part of the two ministers who were under pressure from the local public when they spoke at a gathering.

Frustrated with the alleged inaction and coercion from powerful people, the victim attempted self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence on April 8 which made headlines.
