Who is Parmish Verma? Punjabi singer shot, admitted to hospital

Punjabi singer Parmish Verma, who shot into fame with his song "Gaal Nahin Kadhnai", and his friend were shot at in Mohali on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, wanted gangster Dilpreet Singh Dhahan claims responsibility of the attack.

Mohali district police chief Kuldeep Singh Chahal told the media that investigations were underway.

The 1986-born singer - son of a retired Panjab University professor and who had started his career shooting video films - kept his cool and drove on. Initial reports had suggested that the singer was shot in the leg by the assailants after he had sent his bodyguard home.

Reportedly, both the victims are out of danger at the moment.

Verma and his friend were shot in Phase 8, Industrial Area, Mohali when the duo was returning home.

"Mein dilpreet singh dhahan sariya nu dasna chaunda k ajj parmish verma de goliya bazian apa mariya". A police source said Verma's knee was injured in the firing.

A man by the name of Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, via Facebook post, is claiming to be behind Verma's shooting. Dhalan uploaded a picture on Facebook of him holding a gun with another picture of Parmish Verma with a cross drawn on it. The post has been shared 41 times.

The gangster also said that Mr Verma was "lucky to be alive".

The gangster's motive to claim responsibility for the shooting was unclear. Dilpreet is accused in another murder in Chandigarh where he along with two other people had shot and killed a sarpanch of a village in April previous year in sector 38 in broad daylight.

Parmish is emerging fast in Punjabi industry these days and has garnered a lot of popularity with songs such as "Gaal Ni Kadni" and "Shada".
