Shenmue I & II Receiving Remastered Release on Consoles and PC

The release comes at a good time for those who've been looking forward to Shenmue III but missed out on the classics.

Yup, that's right, Yo Suzuki's much beloved kung-fu action-adventure games will land on PC, Xbox One and PS4 in 2018.

The first Shenmue originally launched in 1999 and, at the time of its release, had the distinction of being the most expensive video game ever created.

Sometimes, that revenge quest involves wandering through a suburban or urban sprawl, tracking down shady characters, and getting into bar fights.

Those unfamiliar with the Shenmue series, the first game follows the exploits of teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki after he returns to his family dojo only to witness a confrontation between his father and a mysterious Chinese man named Lan Di who ends up killing Ryo's father.

"You've asked, we listened and we're extremely excited to finally announce that Shenmue I & II are coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in one package!" says Sega via a tweet over the weekend. The re-release will stay true to the originals with modernised features including fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers. All of this takes place in a real-time open world with the day, night, and weather cycles, populated by NPCs that kept schedules of their own. All we know is that it will be released this year with no exact date.
