Timberwolves Announce Playoff Schedule For Rockets' Series

Given the long odds, and the fact that Minnesota hasn't won a playoff series since the 2004 Western Conference Semifinals, is drawing Houston accomplishment enough?

The schedule is set for the first round of the NBA Playoffs as the Minnesota Timberwolves will take on the Houston Rockets. Not only are they one of only two teams to make over 1,000 threes this season but they have made nearly twice as many threes per game as the Timberwolves have. Houston (65-17) walloped Minnesota in all four regular-season meetings, covering each by an average of 10 points.

Game 2 takes place Thursday from 11:30am AEDT on ESPN Australia/New Zealand and National Basketball Association league Pass. They will have home court advantage during the seven-game series against the Timberwolves, who made the playoffs for the first time in 13 years. At no point did Butler take over the game, finishing with 13 points.

The Timberwolves come into this game 8 in scoring with 109.5 points a game. That means the Wolves grabbed that percentage of all available defensive rebounds. The Minnesota Timberwolves are averaging 109.5 points on 47.6 percent shooting and allowing 107.3 points on 47.5 percent shooting. Clint Capela has the size to rough up Karl-Anthony Towns, while PJ Tucker should do a good enough job on Jimmy Butler. Derrick Rose's minutes likely have to increase and Jamal Crawford will have to defend. In the other three wins, Harden averaged 33.0 points per game. Their "reward" was a date with the top-seeded Rockets.

With the uncertainty of the Golden State Warriors health going into the postseason as well as the Rockets utter dominance throughout the conference with their sterling 41-11 record. Houston trailed by eight at the half and by 16 after three quarters to put the game away.

Additionally, Rockets guards James Harden and Chris Paul ranked first and fourth, respectively, in isolation points per possession.

Coincidentally, both players averaged 7.5 points more per game when they had the opportunity to showcase their talents on their home court.

In their four wins over the Wolves, the Rockets shot 43.4 percent from three-point range. Game 2 will be at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and can be heard on BUZ'N 102.9 FM. The Rockets are 15 in the league in field goal percentage, shooting 46 percent as a team. Then again, this wasn't a normal season in the West with the Wolves winning 47 games at that spot.

Houston had Minnesota's number in the regular season, sweeping all four meetings. Jeff Teague said the Wolves need to push it at times to get easy buckets, but also noted, "We've got to junk up the game a little bit". When asked about it, Butler played coy and offered an entertaining comment. There's not a lot of reliable depth for Minnesota. Luc Mbah a Moute (shoulder) is out.

He went down with a knee injury in their second match-up on February 23rd, then missed the last two games between the two teams. Houston, the deadliest 3-point shooting team in the game, went just 10 for 37 from deep.
