Woman dies in house fire in Akron

Alerted by a passer-by's call, firefighters responded at 2:35 p.m.to fire at a 1 1/2-story house on fire at 313 Harztell Road.

"Firefighters did an excellent job" limiting the fire damage to the upper floor, Galm said, but the house was left uninhabitable, with water damage throughout.

The house fire was under control within 20 minutes of crews arriving.

The fire is under investigation, Windsor Fire and Rescue said in an update posted on Twitter.




Authorities said the home was almost destroyed.

The man's wife was unaccounted for, but was eventually found safe, according to a spokesperson with the Gwinnett County Fire Department, who added that the woman was away visiting her daughter. Two people were taken to the hospital, officials said. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and Kelowna Fire Investigators will be at the scene investigating.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.
