Blue Jays-Royals cancelled by roof damage from falling ice

Blue Jays-Royals cancelled by roof damage from falling ice

The Kansas City Royals will have an unscheduled off-day for the second day in a row.

The game, scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, could become the rare contest in a dome to be postponed because of weather.

Earlier on Monday, the Blue Jays said via Twitter that they were "working to fix damage" to the roof of their stadium, originally named the Skydome when it opened in 1989.

The closure around the CN Tower has been expanded and includes the sidewalk on the south side of Front Street, which is closed from John Street to Blue Jays Way. Authorities say no injuries have been reported, but several windows in nearby office buildings were smashed and at least one vehicle was struck.

Basically, the icy conditions in Toronto have caused plenty of issues, canceling schools and leaving thousands without power.

The extreme weather sweeping through the GTA is playing havoc with one of Toronto's top tourist attractions.

"Perhaps this potential postponement is karma, because the Blue Jays have done a lot of bragging about having a roof, particularly after having games postponed in Cleveland", Grathoff wrote a couple of hours before the team confirmed that Monday's game was a no-go.

Six games were postponed Sunday across Major League Baseball and two more (Orioles-Red Sox, Cardinals-Cubs) were postponed Monday, bringing the season total to 24.
