Ian Somerhalder To Star in Netflix's Vampire Drama 'V-Wars'

Ian Somerhalder, who played one of the hottest vampires on TV in The Vampire Diaries, is returning to the small screen in another series about the bloodthirsty creatures.

Somerhalder will portray Dr. Luther Swann in the series who enters into a world of horror when his best friend, Michael Fayne, transforms into a vampire after contracting a mysterious disease. His character is faced with a daunting task as he watches his best friend rise to power among the vampire crowd, leading the very war Swann is trying to stop.

Somerhalder ended his 8 season run as resident brooding bad boy-turned good vampire Damon Salvatore on The CW's hit series The Vampire Diaries a year ago when the series wrapped.

Edited by Jonathan Maberry, "A Chronicle of the Vampire Wars" is the name of a comic series. Soon, more and more people are transformed, creating a divide in society: humans versus vampires. The order comes as another IDW property, the beloved Locke and Key, is awaiting word on a new home after Hulu's surprising pass on the pilot. Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden will executive produce for High Park, with David Ozer and Ted Adams for IDW Entertainment and James Gibb for Marada Pictures.

Netflix is continuing to bring fascinating, original programming to the streaming service, and we're so excited to see them dip a bit more into the world of the supernatural.

William Laurin and Glenn Davis are on show-running duties, while Brad Turner is directing the first episode and will also work as an executive producer.

According to an April 16 report by TVLine, Ian Somerhalder has been cast in Netflix's V-Wars, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel series. That series ran for eight seasons on CW, concluding in 2017.

He is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment, and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.
