Bruno Sammartino Cause of Death: Legendary Wrestler Dies Aged 82

We are sad to report that WWE Hall Of Famer and former WWWF World Heavyweight Champion Bruno Sammartino has passed away at the age of 82.

Over a wrestling career that spanned almost three decades, Sammartino was the longest-reigning WWE heavyweight champion in history.

The star power and influence of Sammartino was exemplified by the fact that he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The man from Abruzzi Italy became a living example of the American dream when he came to America and followed his reputation as an insanely strong young man into the pro wrestling ring.

Although Sammartino wrestled all over America, and grew in popularity in Japan, it was the NY territory of WWWF where he truly made his name, engaging in iconic feuds with the likes of Pedro Morales and Buddy Rogers. During his tenure with the World Wide Wrestling Federation (which would be renamed the WWF/WWE) he'd sell out Madison Square Garden 187 times. I mean, it's been so many years. "Devastated to hear the passing of a true icon, legend, great, honest and wonderful man..."

As news of Sammartino's death reached more people, tributes began to pour in from all over the wrestling world.

Bruno Sammartino passed away Tuesday at the age of 82. But on my way home, I had a feeling in my gut that this would be something great for me.

WWE extends its condolences to Sammartino's family, friends and fans.
