Internet existed since Mahabharata: Tripura CM

Internet existed since Mahabharata: Tripura CM

Mr Deb, who is from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said that European nations and the United States may claim that the Internet is their invention, but it is actually India's technology.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday criticised "narrow-minded people" who ridiculed his statement that internet and satellites existed during the era of the Mahabharat and India invented advanced technology "lakhs of years ago".

Deb had recently claimed, while speaking at a Regional Workshop on Computerisation and Reforms at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala, that the country had internet and satellites during ancient times. The richest culture belongs to our nation and I feel proud of it. "There was technology available at that time... internet was there, satellite communication was there". He further stated that internet existed even during the times of Mahabharata.

"Many may not believe and completely ignore the fact, but if the Internet was not there, how Sanjay, could see the 18-day epic war in Kurukshetra and describe it to the blind king Dhritarashtra? Believe the truth. Don't get confused and don't confuse others", he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. "See Microsoft, it may be a U.S. company but most of its engineers are all from our country", he added.

"India is that country which during the time of Mahabharata, Sanjay was informing Dritharastra about the happening in the battle and this is proof that technology existed during the time of Mahabharata".

Indians weren't convinced, taking to social media to mock the lawmaker, prompting "Tripura CM Biplap Deb" to trend on Twitter. Deb also added that PM Narendra Modi's digital push has been a success after it was made accessible to citizens across the country.
