StateImpact Oklahoma Embeds With NPR's For Latest 'Trump Stories' On Scott Pruitt

Two top aides to Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt quit their jobs amid investigations into their tenures at the agency, the New York Times reported on Tuesday.

In an EPA statement emailed to ThinkProgress Tuesday, Pruitt said, "Kell Kelly's service at the EPA will be sorely missed".

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, former EPA Deputy Chief of Staff Kevin Chmielewski, a whistleblower who claims he was forced out of the agency after raising concerns about travel and security spending, claimed Perrotta threatened to come to his home to take away his EPA parking pass, and worked to discredit him for questioning Pruitt's spending on travel and security.

Pruitt praised both men for their work at EPA, citing Kelly's "tremendous impact on EPA's Superfund program" and Perrotta's service to four EPA administrators.

The news of Kelly's resignation comes amidst growing concerns about his past history as a banking executive - previous year he was banned for life from the industry by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Perotta also facilitated a $3,000 security sweep of Pruitt's office by colleague at his outside consulting group, and pushed for a bullet-proof desk for Pruitt's office as well as a bullet-proof vehicle, and helped facilitate Pruitt's regular first-class travel.

Former Oklahoma Attorney General Scott and current U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt joins in an applause at the Oklahoma Capitol in 2017. He told the network he would "fully cooperate" with lawmakers probing the EPA, starting with an interview with the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday. "I want to thank him for his service and wish him the very best in retirement", Pruitt said in the statement.

"We strongly support the call by almost 20 U.S. Senators for EPA to allow the use of E15 this summer while the Agency makes good on President Trump's promise to correct the outdated Reid vapor pressure interpretation", Jennings said. As a result, the administrator is now facing at least 10 different ethics investigations. Pruitt has publicly said he doubts the science behind the theory of evolution. "Kell has served in a way that puts the needs of the American people and communities first, while respecting the work committed to by responsible parties".
