BIG EAST and Big Ten Announce Matchups for Gavitt Tipoff Games

The series of games is in honor of the late Dave Gavitt, who founded of the Big East Conference and was a pioneer in the basketball world. All games will be televised on FS1 or the Big Ten Network.

If this does end up being the case, that rematch in the 2018 Gavitt Games will be exciting for Villanova and MI since both teams will be looking to make early statements about being serious contenders.

Among the 16 participating schools, six played in the NCAA Tournament a year ago and three played in the NIT.

Seton Hall comes off a 22-12 season when the Pirates reached the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual Final Four qualifier Kanas.

The Big East and Big Ten Conferences have announced the pairings for this seasons Gavitt Games mens basketball matchups. The three NIT squads are Marquette, Nebraska and Penn State.

Georgetown went 15-15 last season with a 5-13 record in Big East play during former Hoyas great and NBA All-Star Patrick Ewing's first season as coach.

The 2018 matchup with Seton Hall will mark the first time in three appearances that Nebraska has hosted a Gavitt Tip-off Games matchup. The Badgers will travel to Cincinnati to face Xavier on November 13th.

The Gavitt Tipoff Games concludes with St. John's playing at Rutgers on Friday, Nov. 16. Each edition consists of eight games with a couple of teams from both conferences sitting out. Big Ten schools will participate a minimum of four times during the eight-year event. Gavitt had a profound and lasting influence on the sport of basketball on the collegiate, professional and Olympic levels and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
