Flooding possible as heavy rain forecasted Wednesday

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Monday afternoon and evening throughout Will County, warning of "hail up to ping pong ball size" and possible flooding. The river is forecast to crest at 14.2 feet late Wednesday. Two to five inches of additional rain is forecast through Friday. Lowland and agricultural land throughout the county also experienced flooding.

The Rock River at Newville is now at "pre-flooding" stage. At 10:00 p.m. Sunday the stage was 6.2 feet and falling. Portions of the paintball field downstream of the bridge begin to flood and athletic fields in Woodrow Wilson Park on Mount Vernon Road begin to flood due to water backing up in ditches.

Periods of heavy rain could result in flooding of small rivers and streams starting Thursday afternoon, continuing through Friday night, said NWS.

The weather service, quoting Frederick emergency management, said widespread flash flooding had already occurred in and near Frederick.
