Markle's father 'to miss this weekend's Royal Wedding'

Former Hollywood lighting director and Meghan Markle's father Thomas Markle has refused to attend her daughter's wedding to Prince Harry.

News about the staged photos - first revealed over the weekend by the Mail on Sunday - caused a scandal to erupt in the week before the royal wedding at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle asked for "understanding" for the father of the American actress after the US celebrity news site TMZ reported on Monday he would not attend the couple's glittering wedding in Britain this weekend.

The royal family has had a similar situation in the past.

According to TMZ, he told the website he regretted allowing the pictures to be taken and acknowledged they looked "stupid".

A source close to Thomas Markle, cited by the publication, said he was convinced to pose for the shots after being hounded by the paparazzi.

In her ITV interview Monday, Samantha Markle accused the media of taking advantage of Thomas Markle, noting that their father, who is 73 years old, is "a bit more fragile".

Thomas Markle has reportedly decided he is not going to his daughter's wedding. Despite the row, he will still walk his daughter down the aisle at the wedding.

Why does Meghan Markle, a worldly, accomplished independent person, need somebody to walk her down the aisle?

To add to the confusion, Mr Markle's daughter, Meghan's estranged half-sister Samantha, yesterday claimed that she was "the culprit" behind the humiliating photograph debacle. Before they were engaged, the couple stayed in a cute cottage on the Kensington Palace grounds; after they tie the knot on May 19, it's rumored they'll move into a posh apartment adjacent to Prince William and Kate Middleton's residence.

Her mother, Doria Ragland (61) a social worker and yoga teacher who lives in Los Angeles, is expected to accompany her daughter in the bridal auto.

"Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment", the November 2016 statement from Kensington Palace read.

She also reportedly told her father that she didn't care about the paparazzi photos.

Meghan Markle (C) and her mother Doria Ragland (L) watch the closing ceremonies for the Invictus Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on September 30, 2017. She knows the eyes of the world are on her.

So why did Mr Markle pull out at such short notice? "Am I coming to yours?" to which the reporter said she'd send her an invite.

"I said the world has no idea that you're getting in shape and doing healthy things", she said. Suits leading man Gabriel Macht's wife, Jacinda Barrett, who guest-starred in season 2 of the show, spent Mother's Day in London with her children.

Her parents split when Meghan was young, but she told Vanity Fair this year that they remain on good terms and even take vacations together as a family.
