Overwatch Anniversary Event Includes Petra Deathmatch Map & First Free-For-All Competitive Season

Blizzard has published a new Overwatch blog post to announce that the game will be free to play on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The event that's starting on May 22 marks the two-year anniversary of Overwatch and will introduce new skins, a map, and much more. The developer update highlights, new free-for-all deathmatch map: PETRA, free-for-all competitive deathmatch season, a free Legendary Anniversary Loot Box, new Anniversary cosmetics and more.

"Petra is handsome", Kaplan said during Wednesday's Developer Update video. The Overwatch free weekend will be running from May 25 through May 28.

The new edition comes at a ideal time for new players considering picking up the game.

Jeff talks briefly about the new deathmatch map Petra which comes with a mega-health pack in the center of the map and it has a lot of "diversity".

Kaplan also added that the map will be a fine fit for different types of heroes as well be them long-range ones or those that prefer to be up close in the fights. With these loot boxes, players can get items that were left behind in the Summer Games and other Overwatch events.

For those who have missed any of those aforementioned Overwatch events, look for all of the seasonal brawls and missions to make their return during the Overwatch Anniversary event.

The Anniversary event will bring back previous seasonal cosmetic items, including your favourite dance emotes from last year's celebration.

Kaplan also hints that a handsome gentleman will have a legendary skin, as demanded many times by the Overwatch community.
