A million chainsaws recalled because they might not turn off

According to a news release issued by Harbor Freight, the switch can fail, causing the chainsaw to continue to run even when the switch is in the "off" position.

Harbor Freight which has outlets locally including in Waco has recalled over a million chainsaws because of a possible defect that can result in serious injury.

Harbor Freight Tools are recalling 1,020,000 chainsaws due to a possible power switch malfunction, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Consumers should stop using the recalled chainsaws and return them to their local Harbor Freight Tools store for a free replacement.

"The recall affects two 14" chainsaw models sold under three brand names. The Portland and One Stop Gardens brand chain saws are green and black and have "Portland" printed on the blades. Portland brand saws have model numbers 67255 or 61592, and Once Stop Gardens brand saws have model numbers 67255 or 61592. The Chicago Electric has a red handle with black components and a silver saw that has "Double Guard" printed on it.

The defective items were sold at Harbor Freights stores and online May 2009 through February 2018 at a price of $50.

Replacement units will be available starting Sunday, May 20.
