Milwaukee Bucks reportedly reach agreement with Mike Budenholzer to be head coach

Mike Budenholzer will reportedly become the new head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, and the 16th in franchise history.

If the Bucks want to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo around long-term, they need a guy like Budenholzer to come in and help him compete for a championship.

Budenholzer met with team ownership Tuesday, and prior to Wednesday's report, had been considered a favorite for the job.

Budenholzer was also a candidate for jobs with the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks.

The Bucks were in the market for a new coach after firing Jason Kidd midway through the season, his fourth with the team.

"It is a relatively unprecedented move in a head coaching search, but it clearly reflects the Bucks determination to make Antetokounmpo and Middleton feel a part of the process". Messina could still be summoned to Milwaukee for a meeting with the players too, league sources said, but that will largely be determined on the Bucks next step with Budenholzer. Atlanta made the playoffs in four of his first five seasons as head coach. In his fifth season, the Greek Freak has developed into a two-way monster and one of the top 10 players in the National Basketball Association. The Hawks went 24-58 this season.

Budenholzer led Atlanta to a 60-win season during the 2014-15 season.

Before becoming a head coach with the Hawks, Budenholzer was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs for 17 years.
