Starbucks Back At It: Customer Given Cup With Racial Slur

Starbucks Back At It: Customer Given Cup With Racial Slur

A woman who said she knows Pedro went to Twitter to offer criticism to Starbucks.

The apology on social media came after a customer at a Starbucks in La Cañada Flintridge, California, found the word "Beaner" - a derogatory term for Mexicans - printed on his coffee drink instead of "Pedro", his name.

The customer, identified as Pedro, said he ordered two coffees, a "Venti White Mocha" and "Venti Ice Caramel Macchiato", from the cafe and received his order with the word "beaner" on both cups where the customer's name is usually printed, reported KNBC in Los Angeles. "I did not accept it because it's like an insult to everyone, that they want to buy you with a $50 card", he said.

"This is not the experience that we want for our clients", the statement said. "We asked his forgiveness and we are working to correct this".

"That's clearly really racist", Starbucks customer Ana Garcia said outside the store when told about what happened. "Also, we are investigating the incident to ensure this will not be repeated".

Starbucks announced in April it plans to close more than 8,000 stores in the USA on May 29th for racial education training. The two men, Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson, were waiting for a business meeting they scheduled at the store. The barista had called the police after one of the black men asked to use the bathroom without making a purchase.

If there was ill intent with the slur, Starbucks definitely needs to make sure the location in La Cañada Flintridge is on the list to receive it.

A friend of Pedro's spoke with a local CBS News affiliate about the Starbucks incident this week, describing him as sad following the event.
