YouTube revamps its streaming music service

Enjoy music for free with ads, or get YouTube Red.

YouTube remains the biggest video site on the internet, with over 1.8 billion accounts watching each month.

YouTube Music Is Now "Reimagined", "Revamped"!

YouTube Music makes sense. It's the YouTube appeal.

"YouTube Music is a new music streaming service made for music: official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio plus YouTube's tremendous catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that you can't find anywhere else-all simply organized and personalized", Roman continued, adding: "For the first time, all the ways music moves you can be found in one place".

How does YouTube Music work? Much of that viewing, as CNET notes, is people listening to music, as music videos consistently rank among the most popular clips on the platform. The service will also recommend music based on a user's listening history and location.

Still, quest for more?

Users will also be able to cue up music without knowing a song's name by searching for things like "that hipster song with the whistling" or song lyrics, although users of ad-supported YouTube can do that as well. "The days of jumping back and forth between multiple music apps and YouTube are over", the company said in its announcement. The home screen will dynamically adapt to the listener's preference.

Despite being replaced, Google Play Music will continue to exist as a cloud locker service while existing subscribers will gain access to the new music streaming service. YouTube Music isn't out to replace it. But in recent years, subscription services have positioned their businesses as vital contributors to the music industry's resurgence, by convincing millions of listeners to pay for on-demand music. For now, it still exists, though its future is quite skeptical.

Will I have to pay again for YouTube Music Or Premium if I already have YouTube Red?

From May 22, YouTube Music will roll out to users in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. It will expand in further territories in near future. Monthly charges apply for YouTube Red membership outside of trial periods. It's now YouTube Premium.

YouTube Premium, meanwhile, is YouTube Music's ad-free version, along with original series and movies from YouTube. It will also allow background play and downloads of videos available across YouTube's huge library.
