Anthony Bourdain Dead at 61

CNN confirmed Mr Bourdain's death as a suicide. And it seemed that he pretty much accomplished that, travelling the globe some 200 days a year for his TV shows, reveling not in fancy tasting menus which he scorned but in simple pleasures like a cold beer and spicy noodles in Hanoi, which he once shared with former president Barack Obama.

Zimmern says that when he and Bourdain met up, they would talk about "wanting to get off this insane roller coaster, but at the same time knowing that this was our work", he told The New York Times. "Please know that your family is not better off without you". "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller", CNN said in the statement.

Bourdain had been in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series, Parts Unknown.

Argento, who recently made headlines by boldly addressing Harvey Weinstein rape allegations at the Cannes Film Festival, was just as nakedly honest in a Twitter post Friday. CNN chief executive Jeff Zucker sent a company letter calling Bourdain "an exceptional talent".

At the very beginning of his career, Anthony wrote in Medium Raw, he would cook meals while on speed, cocaine, and heroin.

And following the suicide of designer Kate Spade earlier this week-and now, sadly, Bourdain's-I'm grateful to see national and local publications running the phone and text numbers of the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (800-273-8255) and the Crisis Text Line (741-741). "People always say, 'don't meet your heroes.' But I found him to be everything I expected him to be: witty, charming, funny".

Of course, going deep with a troubled family member or friend is not easy.

As Bourdain had done in many interviews in the past, he spoke about his past demons, including his addiction to heroin and cocaine, and his use of alcohol.

Bourdain, who is survived by his 11-year-old daughter Ariane Bourdain, was one of cooking's leading storytellers and has written several books, including Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly and Medium Raw.

"Bourdain's exceptional writing made this one formerly picky, fearful eater very fearless and want to try everything and I'll always be grateful for him and the worlds he opened", tweeted Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The chef was loved by people all over the world. Bourdain wrote about the episode in 2016. Funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
