Donald Trump says North Korea no longer a nuclear threat: ‘sleep well!’

The poll results came a day after Trump and Kim met face-to-fact in Singapore and signed a joint pledge committing the U.S.to unspecified security guarantees for North Korea in exchange for the eventual denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Even as Pompeo staunchly defended the summit results, he was less exuberant than Trump, who tweeted on his return to the USA on Monday morning: "Just landed - a long trip, but everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office".

Many lawmakers from both parties, while unready to declare the summit a diplomatic victory or defeat, remained skeptical the US could successfully negotiate a deal toward peace with Kim - but are letting the process play out.

With a handshake that lasted for about 13 seconds, North Korea's Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump on Tuesday scripted history during the first-ever and much-awaited meeting between the two countries.

Independent experts say the North could have enough fissile material for anywhere between about a dozen and 60 nuclear bombs. "Our unprecedented meeting - the first between an American President and a leader of North Korea - proves that real change is possible!"

But he said that was no longer the case, and everyone can "sleep well tonight".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo walks with Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, as he arrives at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, on Wednesday. -South Korea war games as part of the negotiations with Kim. "If joint South Korea-U.S. military exercises are halted, the role of the Combined Forces Command ends and U.S. troop numbers will naturally decline", he claimed.

Annual military drills between the US and South Korea have been a major source of tension on the Korean Peninsula. -South Korean military exercises, framing it as Trump agreeing to a request from Kim.

On the idea of Trump working with a "homicidal boy-king", the host threw to a clip of the president saying "I'm given what I'm given", to which Colbert added, "He's given what he's given, okay?"

Tuesday's summit in Singapore was front page news on Wednesday, with full-page spreads of photos of Mr Kim and Mr Trump and details about the meeting.

Pompeo was in Seoul on Wednesday to brief South Korean officials on the summit. Pompeo, the former Central Intelligence Agency director, then plans to fly to Beijing to update the Chinese government on the talks. Trump and Kim referred back to the so-called Panmunjom Declaration, which contained a weak commitment to denuclearization but no specifics on how to achieve it. Adding that meet was "very, very, very good", Trump said both the countries have an "excellent relationship".

There are usually two sets of exercises every year, in spring and autumn, involving a massive number of troops and military hardware.

"I believe in North Korea", Rodman said.

KCNA said the two leaders "gladly accepted each other's invitation, convinced that it would serve as another important occasion for improved" relations between their countries. He said he planned to continue sharing the view with Washington and Seoul.

But some argue North Korea didn't go any further than previous promises.

Even as they offered measured praise for Mr Trump's diplomatic efforts, congressional Republicans have emphasised the hard road that remains and pressed for more details of what exactly the President agreed to with Kim.
