Alex Iovine, 26, and her girlfriend, Emma Pichl, 24, said the ordeal began on Saturday evening after they'd ordered an Uber to take them from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Alex Iovine says their driver reacted irrationally to their backseat display of affection, telling NBC NY, "We peck kissed, like I reached across and pecked kissed her".

"Kissing is not illegal", one of the women responds.

In video posted to Iovine's Facebook page, you hear the women asking the driver, "What's the issue?" "I did what I believe is my freedom", he said. "It's not illegal to kiss in NY".

"Yeah, it is illegal", the driver says. ". Don't do that here in the vehicle".

Uber spokeswoman Susan Hendrick told CNN that the company has removed the driver's access to the app and that it is investigating the incident. "We had leaned over and peck kissed, and then a couple of minutes later, the driver abruptly pulled over". A confrontation ensued. In phone video taken by one of the women, the driver says kissing in an Uber is illegal. "Just get out of my vehicle".

"I think, for both us, it was just a shock, not really knowing what to say", she said.

The driver then told the women he didn't care when they threatened to report him.

"Uber does not tolerate any form of discrimination, and we have reached out to the rider regarding her experience", an Uber spokesperson told Newsweek in a statement.

'We are investigating and will take appropriate action'.

"The blatantly discriminatory behavior described by the complainant is repugnant", said the spokesman.

"My girlfriend started laughing", she said.

A spokesman for the taxi regulator in NY said: "There is a list of circumstances that are grounds for refusing service to a passenger and what happened is definitely not one of them".

"I was taking an Uber yesterday afternoon in Manhattan when my driver abruptly pulled over and kicked myself and my girlfriend out of the vehicle", Iovine told the New York Daily News. "I think we are going to steer clear of Uber for a bit".

"This is an open society and Uber is a platform that is available to anybody regardless of your background, your orientation, and that is sacred to us", Khosrowshahi told the NY Post.
