White House aide apologizes for 'special place in hell' comment

Trump adviser Peter Navarro, meanwhile, said Tuesday he made a mistake when he said "there's a special place in hell" for Trudeau.

The move has been roundly criticised by Canada and the European Union, leading to heightened tensions at last week's summit of the Group of Seven wealthy democracies - just before Mr Trump left for Singapore and a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. On board Air Force One, Trump tweeted that he was pulling out of the leaders' joint statement, and derided Trudeau for being "dishonest" and "weak" at his closing G-7 news conference.

"That's unconscionable", Heyman said."Anybody who represents the United States of America from the White House using that kind of language with any world leader of any type, I think is uncalled for".

"I have a good relationship with Justin Trudeau, I really did - other than he had a news conference that he had because he assumed I was in an airplane and I wasn't watching", the president said.

"On (Trump's) comments, I'm going to stay focused on defending jobs for Canadians and supporting Canadian interests", he said.

And Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, who is traveling to Washington on Wednesday to try to salvage the North American Free Trade Agreement, also emphasized the need for calm.

"Based on Justin's false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!"

The Trump administration took umbrage at an ally publicly criticizing US policy just before a historic meeting with Kim Jong-Un. Trump refused to endorse the group's joint statement, said that Russian Federation should be readmitted, and traded barbs with Trudeau over an intensifying trade conflict.

Navarro lashed out on Fox News following a multi-day tirade by Trump and his administration over trade and Canada's response to tariffs imposed by the U.S.

Navarro's comments were part of the White House's continued criticism of Trudeau.

. It was very friendly. And, if I may quote the words of the great Bear Bryant, "when you make a mistake you should admit it, learn from it, don't repeat it".

Also on Monday, former Trump aide and a former Breitbart editor Sebastian Gorka criticized Trudeau, calling him "childish". "I know it was reported sort of nasty both ways - I was angry at her, or she".
