Dear Samsung mobe owners: It may leak your private pics to randoms

A glitch in the latest version of the Samsung Messages texting app that comes pre-installed on all Samsung phones is sending random pictures to users' contacts. Samsung users have reported about the problem on the company's official forums, on Reddit, etc. The mostly likely cause for the problem is a recent update to Samsung Messages, the default texting app for Samsung phones.

Additional owners of the Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note 8 devices have complained about picture dumps, prompting one Reddit user to quip: "Do S9's come with divorce lawyers?"

A small number of people that own Samsung smartphones have reported that their devices randomly sent photos from their gallery to their contacts without their knowledge, according to several reports on Samsung's forums and Reddit that were first discovered by Gizmodo. Is T-Mobile your carrier? On Samsung's Galaxy S9 support board, a user said Samsung Messages became buggy after an T-Mobile RCS/advanced messaging update on his phone. He wrote that the app was sending scheduled messages early, that some messages were ending up in wrong threads. These text messages also included photos stored in their respective devices, reports Gizmodo. These features include improved media sharing, read receipts and typing indicators.

"We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it", a Samsung spokesman told us. Until then, there are two easy fixes for the concerned users: 1. El Reg asked the chaebol for any explanation, and will let you know if we hear more.

There's no definitive list of Samsung phone models affected yet, and the issue may be related to recent software updates pushed to phones.

Until a proper solution is put in place, users are advised to go into the settings on your phone and revoke Samsung messages' access to your phone's storage.
