Eight boys brought safely out of flooded Thai caves in two days

Eight boys brought safely out of flooded Thai caves in two days

As per the reports, one of the four people rescued last night was the 25-year-old coach Ekapol Chanthawong.

The mission to free the remaining members of the group has been suspended for at least 10 hours, Chiang Rai Governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn said, as teams replenish supplies used up removing the first four boys.

Two divers were to accompany each of the boys, all of whom have been learning to dive only since July 2, when the first searchers found them.

The operation on Monday went more smoothly than on Sunday and took two hours less as the practice became more refined, he said.

Their disappearance triggered a massive global search and rescue operation involving officials, soldiers and volunteers from the United States, Britain, Australia, Germany, Japan and China, among others.

Eighteen divers - 13 foreigners and five from Thailand's navy Seal unit - went into the cave at 10am (11am Singapore time) yesterday, in a bid to bring the boys out before monsoon rains arrived.

At a news conference Monday, former Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn said the second rescue involved numerous same divers who brought the four boys out on Sunday.

"It's highly unsafe, it's very precarious and our thoughts are not only with the boys but also with the diving and rescue teams that are assisting", Ms Bishop told the Nine Network on Monday.

The aunt and grandmother of one of the boys, Prajak Sutham, said earlier in the day they learned the rescue effort was underway via Facebook, and were anxiously awaiting news that Prajak had made it out safely.

The four boys pulled from the cave Sunday in an urgent and risky operation that involved them diving through the cave's dark, tight and twisting passages were happy and in good health, authorities said.

Falling oxygen levels and the fact that many boys can not swim well present further risks as they are guided slowly through pitch-black waters.

"There is no other day that we are more ready than today", he said.

Between the base camp inside the cave and the trapped boys are twisting, turning cave passageways with torrents of water gushing through. A family member told CNN Monday that they hadn't been told which boys had been pulled out, and who is still trapped in the cave.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop told reporters in Australia that anesthetist and experienced cave diver Richard Harris is working with the Thai medical team inside the cave "to make the decisions about the order in which the boys were to be extracted". More air canisters will be placed by the divers along the underwater route.

Thais were quick to jump onto social media on Sunday night to celebrate the rescue of the initial four. "The conditions must be stable like today before we can continue the operation".

Numerous young boys came from poor families and some were even stateless ethnic minorities, and Ekapol felt an instant connection with them.

Expert divers on Sunday managed to get four of the 12 boys to safety.

Ninety divers took part in the rescue.

In an earlier tweet, the Boring Company CEO said this prototype was being tested in a pool specifically with subjects untrained in SCUBA. "I am so happy".

Asked what she would say when she first sees her grandson, Kiawakham Chantaphoon said, "Grandma loves you the most in the whole world".

One of the primary concerns will be the boys' exposure to a lack of oxygen, said Dr. Darria Long Gillespie of the University of Tennessee.
