The Rockets should sign Carmelo Anthony, but only under these conditions

The Rockets have lost two key perimeter players in Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute in free agency, but it appears they're targeting Anthony as a replacement, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Anthony and the Oklahoma City Thunder are working on parting ways. Mbah A Moute had a one-year deal last year with the Rockets worth $2.1 million.

It's an era of NBA basketball in which contending teams often build a "Big Three" to help them win titles and adding Anthony to the mix in Houston would give the Rockets just that.

Anthony is now a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the two sides are reportedly working on parting ways, whether through a trade, a buyout or waiving via the stretch provision.

Multiple reports on Sunday said Rockets guard Chris Paul wants Anthony, a good friend of his, to join the Rockets, while Anthony is also believed to have interest in joining LeBron James with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 31-year-old forward played in 61 regular season games, averaging 7.5 points and at least one steal a game.

Reports surfaced on July 6 that the Thunder were looking to move Anthony. He averaged 13.9 points and 10.8 rebounds per game on a Rockets team that advanced to the Western Conference Finals in 2017-18.

As for Houston, by signing Anthony as a free agent, presumably for the veteran's minimum, it stands to get a bargain scorer the Thunder failed to fully unlock last season.
