The tradition of this particular christening gown harkens back to Queen Victoria, who commissioned the garment for the royal baptism of her daughter Victoria in 1841; you can glimpse one of its earliest representations in a painting of the event from the era.

Kate Middleton stunned, once again, at the christening of her third child, Louis, in London on July 9.

But the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh did not attend, with the decision made "some time ago" and not on health grounds, Buckingham Palace said.

Other guests included Louis' new aunt Meghan Markle, who wore a green Ralph Lauren outfit with a Stephen Jones hat alongside her husband of two months, Prince Harry.

Proud parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their way into the service in London with their three children. When Prince Louis was born she tickled everyone with her confident waving at cameras as she strolled up the steps of the Lindo Wing.

Meghan was christened and confirmed in the oak-panelled Chapel Royal by the archbishop, who also married her and Harry in May.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will be in attendance alongside Carole and Michael Middleton.

It's also where the coffin of Diana, Princess of Wales laid for a week before her burial.

Members of the royal family congregated at the private ceremony on Monday afternoon including siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Prince Louis is 11 weeks old and was seen sleeping in his mother's arms, having grown a touch of fine hair over his head since the public last saw him on the day of his birth.

At the baptism of Prince George in 2013 at the same chapel, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a cream-coloured Alexander McQueen dress with a distinctive ruffle down the chest.
