92-year-old man beaten with a brick in Los Angeles

The group of attackers fled as the police were called, but not before leaving Rodriguez with broken ribs, a broken cheekbone, and bruises all over his body, according to KCAL 9.

Rodriguez's family said during his evening walk, he was confronted by a woman with a child after he accidentally bumped into the girl as he tried to pass them on the sidewalk.

Though the Los Angeles Police Department have yet to clarify whether or not they believe this to be a motivated hate crime, Twitter users have used the incident as a means to cry out against similarly racist acts.

Rodriguez travels to the US yearly from Michoacan, Mexico, to visit his family in Willowbrook, grandson Erik Mendoza told CNN, which reported that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was seeking up to five suspects - the woman and three or four men - as of Monday night. One eyewitness who also took video, but did not want to be identified, said Rodriguez was beaten with a piece of concrete.

The drive had raised more than $34,000 of its original $15,000 goal by Monday early afternoon.

Rodolfo Rodriguez had just finished eating his dinner and went for his daily walk around the block. "He is doing really bad, has a lot of bruises on his face and a broken cheekbone". The witness told the Sacramento Bee that the mother told Rodriguez: 'Go back to your country, why are you here?'

Rodriguez's family told KTLA-TV that the woman from the photograph pushed Rodriguez to the ground, picked up a brick and began beating him with it. Rodriguez-a permanent resident, per the Washington Post-says he was headed to a Willowbrook park when he passed a woman who "hit me until she was done". "He's 92 years of age".

While the attackers have yet to be arrested, there is reportedly a video of the incident.

Authorities are on the lookout for five suspects-four men and the one woman in the video, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy D'Angelo Robinson. "There was what appears to be a 4-year-old child there who witnessed the entire thing", he said.

Mendoza created a GoFundMe fundraiser for his grandpa to help cover the cost of medical treatment. Nobody shouldn't even harm him 'cause I wouldn't want to see nobody hurting my father or mother. He said. "That's why we're still in shock, as you can see he's badly injured".
