Boys Reportedly Now Rescued From Thai Cave Following Second Rescue Operation

Four boys and the coach are still trapped. A massive global search operation was launched and it took 10 days to locate the boys, who had taken shelter on a dry slope deep in the complex.

The total number of boys rescued from the cave during a rescue operation that started on Sunday was eight.

The jubilant news capped a dramatic search and treacherous three-day rescue mission that captivated the world.

All preparations, including replacing the oxygen cylinders positioned along the route out of the cave, take at least 20 hours, he said. "It's stronger now. Every step of the extraction is risky", said Narongsuk Keasub, a diver for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.

After his visit, he went to Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital to visit the rescued boys.

Four boys were rescued on Sunday and they were judged as healthy as they recovered in an area hospital.

The 12 members of the Wild Boars junior soccer team and their 25-year-old coach Ekkapol Chantawong first went missing on June 23 after heavy rains entrapped them in the Tham Luang cave where they'd gone for a trek. Two divers are helping each one make his way through very narrow tunnels that twist and turn, and filled with dark muddy water.

A witness near the cave told the Reuters news agency that medical workers carried four people to emergency rescue vehicles.

He did not say how many boys the team hoped to bring out on Monday.

"All the thirteen Wild Boars are now out of the cave", the Thai Navy SEALS said in a Facebook post confirming the entire soccer team had been rescued.

Among the ideas were drilling an escape route through the mountain, and leaving them for months until the monsoon season ended and the flooding subsided.

Monsoon flooding cut off their escape route and prevented rescuers from finding them for nearly 10 days.

"Anyone that has had contact with the boys, including their close family, will be closely monitored to make sure they are disease free".

The death Friday of a former Thai navy SEAL, Saman Gunan, underscored the risks.

The last of the group to emerge from the cave on Tuesday were four Navy SEALs, including a doctor who stayed with the team for a week after their discovery.

Thai officials have been tight-lipped about the rescue operation, and would not comment on how many people were removed Monday.

Chiang Rai health officials have told the Thai media that the families of the children can see them later tonight but "no hugging, no kissing" until their blood results are known.

He said that water level in the cave continued to recede, facilitating the rescue operations five hours early on Monday. There was no word on the condition of the fifth boy brought out earlier on Monday. Rescuers sought to take out the boys in the weakest condition first.

The head of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osottanakorn, said last week they would bring the fittest people in the group out first. "I'm hoping for good news today", he said.

Eight boys are still inside the cave and along with the team coach.

It appears that the team were going into the cave as part of an initiation ceremony which tasked the boys with reaching the end of the cave and returning having written their names on the far wall.

"This morning they said they were hungry and wanted to eat khao pad grapao", Narongsak said, referring to a Thai dish of meat fried with chili and basil and served over rice.
