Simona Halep stunned by Hsieh Su-wei in Wimbledon third round

3rd rd: Alison van Uytvanck (Bel) bt Anett Kontaveit (Est) 6-2 6-3, Darya Kasatkina (Rus) bt Ashleigh Barty (Aus) 7-5 6-3, Hsieh Su-wei (Tpe) bt Simona Halep (Rom) 3-6 6-4 7-5, Carla Suarez-Navarro (Esp) bt Belinda Bencic (Sui) 6-1 7-6 (7-3), Jelena Ostapenko (Lat) bt Vitalia Diatchenko (Rus) 6-0 6-4.

Simona Halep described her performance as "unprofessional" after the world number one suffered a shock third-round defeat by Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Hsieh refused to be beaten at the All England Club on Saturday after emerging a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victor, despite dropping serve seven times and saving a match point.

The world number 48 will face Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova, a 6-2 6-2 victor over 15th seed Elise Mertens, in the fourth round.

When Halep led 4-1 and 5-2 in the final set it looked as though she would live to fight another day but Hsieh broke back and repeated the trick at 5-5 when she landed a sweetly-timed backhand into the corner and Halep could only net.

In a sport often dominated by relentless baseline bashers Hsieh brought so much more to the party. She wouldn't win another game.

She prevailed 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 on a baking Court One as the All England Club seeds' carnage claimed another victim. "I was extremely negative yesterday and just needed to come out with a very different state of mind and different approach today", he said.

As for the two last lopsided sets, Tiafoe said he "gave everything I was able to do". Secondly, Edmund touched the net after his chase.

Nishikori, seeded 24, bids to make the last 16 for a third time and record his 350th career win.

"For me, I just try to enjoy the tennis, enjoy the city, enjoy the food. I just want to feel free and enjoy the match", she added, about how she prepared herself for the tie.

Elsewhere, two-time champion Rafael Nadal also reached the last 16 for the eighth time, ensuring he keeps his world number one ranking after Wimbledon. It's really tough to stay low, to play every ball, to expect actually nothing because you never know where the ball is bouncing and where is coming.

"It's a great day, it's been a great match for me", said Gulbis who before Wimbledon had won just one match on tour in 2018.

Karolina Pliskova [No.7] is the only top 10 seed left at SW19 with Serena Williams also still in the running.

She will now play Dominika Cibulkova after the Slovak, who defeated Britain's Johanna Konta in the second round, beat 15th seed Elise Mertens of Belgium 6-2 6-2.

At the start of the year, she flummoxed Spanish big-hitter Garbine Muguruza at the Australian Open and tied former champion Angelique Kerber in knots before running out of gas.

An emphatic hold pulled the No.1 player from Chinese Taipei level in the set, and that kicked off a run of three straight to her side of the scoreboard to send the match to a final set.
