Donald Trump 'fine' with protests as United Kingdom visit begins

The bulk of the activity will take place in London, where people plan to gather first in Regent's Park outside of the USA ambassador's house on Thursday and again across central London for a series of protests throughout the day on Friday.

Amid mass protests against the president's visit, Donald Trump's itinerary features a relatively short stay in London, with a lavish black-tie dinner to be held for him at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on Thursday night.

Donald Trump is due to arrive in London on Thursday and will meet the Prime Minister and the Queen.

Mr. Trump may have ruffled feathers again when he said just before departing for Europe that the United Kingdom was in "turmoil", suggesting it was "up to the people" to decide if Prime Minister Theresa May remains in power after a few days that saw her authority challenged by the resignation of two prominent Cabinet ministers protesting her Brexit policy.

The U.S. Embassy has even warned American citizens to keep a low profile during the visit because of the planned protests - the sort of warning usually issued in more volatile locations.

"He's come out of the woodwork now and I've seen it the last few days; there's huge positivity for what we've done here".

Gardner, who works with refugees as part of her doctoral research at the London School of Economics, said Trump's speeches about refugees and immigrants are "a very unsafe line of rhetoric to be normalized".

In the busy south London neighborhood of Brixton, Victor Greetham, who runs a jazz bar, said he hasn't been to a demonstration since he protested against the Iraq War in 2003, but he planned to attend one of the protests against Trump's visit.

Khan and Trump have clashed repeatedly since they were both elected in 2016, with the US President taking a dig at the London Mayor over the rising number of violent crime registered in London in the past year.

President Trump said the British people "voted to break it up, so I imagine that " s what they " ll do" and "Brexit is Brexit".

Trump is on a "working visit" rather than a full state occasion.

There are also plans for protestors to gather close to the United States ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, where Trump and his wife, Melania, will stay overnight on Thursday.

The decision was met with disappointment from Scottish Green leader Patrick Harvie, who said: "We're used to seeing the President throw his toys out of the pram in the face of peaceful protests, but a tantrum about a balloon is quite unnecessary".

Just hours before arriving in London, the USA president questioned progress in Brexit talks and Britain's new plan to remain close to the European Union on regulatory standards for goods.

Russia, Brexit and the Middle East are set to top the agenda.

Donald Trump and wife Melania have been pictured dressed up to the nines at a lavish dinner at Blenheim Palace, hosted by Theresa May.

Such comments are likely to be seen as unwelcome by Mrs May, who has already faced significant political criticism for hosting Mr Trump.

Campaigners plan to transport the 20ft high caricature blimp north of the border after flying it over central London as Donald Trump begins his visit to the UK.

The pair will then travel to Chequers - the PM's country residence in Buckinghamshire - for talks with the foreign secretary.

Later, Trump will go to Windsor Castle for tea with the 92-year-old queen.
