Jones snatches dramatic win in crash-filled Daytona race

Jones joins a list of many drivers who got their first win in this race. Kurt Busch, who was involved in one of the wrecks, expressed his frustration in a tweet.

Truex finished second, followed by AJ Allmendinger, Kasey Kahne and Chris Buescher - another odd top 10 at Daytona. It was another odd top 10 at Daytona. Stenhouse Jr. was able to continue but cut a tire later in the race to take him from contention...

"I've got to wreck more people, and then they'll stop blocking me late and behind like that".

STAGE TWO: Stenhouse won the second stage over Michael McDowell as the field, decimated by two big wrecks, finished lap 80.

Kyle Larson spun sideways coming out of Turn 4 because of a flat tire, and Stenhouse slammed into him. It doesn't mean anything to lead these laps in the middle of the race.

Early on, it appeared as though it was going to be Ricky Stenhouse Jr.'s night. This was the final restrictor-plate race prior to the playoffs, which begin in September.

THE SECOND BIG ONE: The night's second major crash occurred on lap 65.

"It's been insane partly due to a few of my issues", Stenhouse told NBC broadcasters during the race. Stenhouse bumped Kyle Busch and sent the No. 18 Toyota into the wall.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has wrecked more than half the field at Daytona.

This year's races at Daytona for Cup, Xfinity and Camping World Truck teams damaged the most vehicles at that track since 2012.

Defending race victor Ricky Stenhouse Jr. started the melee when he tapped and turned Keselowski, who was running third. That crash ended their respective nights.

"Ricky was doing the best he could to give me a good push and had a great run to take the lead, and the auto in front of me (Byron) just threw a late, bad block", Keselowski said. "It usually happens much later in the night".

"When one auto sits sideways in front of the field at 200 miles per hour, you can't get through it", driver Joey Logano said of the mishaps.

Two massive wrecks in Stage 2, both involving Ricky Stenhouse Jr., eliminated the majority of the contending cars and opened the door for a new victor. It was Stenhouse's first stage win of the year. Eight laps later, Byron and Kyle Busch were involved and the caution resulted in Byron losing his spot.

Brad Keselowski won the battle off of pit road and would lead the field at the start of stage 2 in the Coe Zero 400 at Daytona.

"No, it's aggressive speedway racing", Stenhouse said.

Elliott was on the pole on the front with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman.

Chevy is trying to snap a 0-for-17 streak.

Austin Dillon gave Chevy its lone win of the season at the season-opening Daytona 500. However, he was not able to hold on to the lead he held at the start of the first overtime.

International Speedway Corp. President John Saunders pinned some of NASCAR's woes on the failure of the new crop of drivers, who have struggled to replace the sport's retired crop of stars.

With a wild Coke Zero Sugar 400 in the books, the action will shift to Kentucky Speedway next week for the Quaker State 400.
