Roger Federer takes on Kevin Anderson, Novak Djokovic up against Kei Nishikori

In the fourth set, Federer and Anderson alternated winning the first six games until Anderson broke Federer's serve to take a 4-3 lead and then Anderson went up 5-3 thanks to strong serving before he clinched the set.

Kevin Anderson produced an astonishing fightback from two sets down to beat eight-time champion Roger Federer 2-6 6-7 (5) 7-5 6-4 13-11 in a quarter-final cliffhanger at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

Roger Federer was a point away from a rather tidy, straight-set victory in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Interviewed by Sky Sport, the eight-time champion Andre Agassi himself admitted that he would like to see the epic clash: 'This would be for the history books, for everybody.

In the end, it just wasn't meant to be Roger Federer's year at Wimbledon.

"I just kept on telling myself, 'I have to keep believing.' I kept saying that today was going to be my day, because you really need that mindset taking the court against somebody like Roger", Anderson said.

In the semifinals, Anderson will face the victor of the matchup between American John Isner, the No. 9 seed, and Canada's Milos Raonic, the No. 13 seed.

Then in the 23rd game, at 11-all, 30-30 Federer blinked, sending down a double-fault and then drove a forehand into the net to allow his giant opponent to serve for a place in the semifinals.

Anderson is the first South African man to make the last four at Wimbledon since Kevin Curren in 1983. He was, after all, the runner-up at last year's U.S. Open.

When Anderson broke again in the fourth, Federer was suddenly on the ropes.

That took great self-belief, he added, knowing that he had never taken a set off 20-time major victor Federer in four previous meetings. When Nishikori let his own racket fly in the fourth set, he wasn't chastised, which prompted Djokovic to yell "double standards" toward Ramos - drawing boos from fans.

Anderson needed four more booming serves to reach a first Wimbledon semi-final, and he found them.

Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro meet later on Wednesday to decide whom Djokovic will face in the next phase of the London tournament.

Djokovic secured that game with a forehand victor, then saved two game points on Nishikori's serve before converting his first match point with a forehand down the line. "I have been building over the last couple of weeks, and the level of tennis I have played in the last couple of months felt like it was getting better and better and I feel like I am peaking at the right moment".

"To be honest, I thought it was unnecessary to get a warning". It's my mission to get back to where I was.
