Charles Oakley Accused of Cheating at a Las Vegas Casino

Former NBA forward Charles Oakley was arrested Sunday in Las Vegas after he allegedly was caught by surveillance cameras cheating at a casino, TMZ reported Thursday. The agency said Oakley is suspected of "adding to or reducing his wager" on a game after the outcome was known. Oakley allegedly attempted to take back a $100 chip after he realized he was about to lose the game. He was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center without incident.

The violation is punishable by up to six years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000 but Oakley is not expected to serve jail time.

Security at the Cosmopolitan stopped Oakley, with the incident being recorded.

Former NBA star Charles Oakley has found himself in trouble again, in a place where he's found plenty of trouble in the past.

Oakley was recently cleared of misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a scuffle with Madison Square Garden security guards previous year in which he was violently ejected from the stadium during a game.

Oakley played for the Knicks from 1988 until 1998, helping them reach the 1994 NBA Finals alongside Patrick Ewing, John Starks, the late Anthony Mason and head coach Pat Riley. (Spiro told Law&Crime in an email on Thursday that the NY case was dismissed and sealed.) Oakley has sued MSG and arena owner James Dolan over the incident. Oakley was arrested by the NYPD and charged with three counts of assault for hitting security guards. Oakley, 54, played 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association, most notably as a key contributor to the Knicks over 10 seasons.
