Trump slams May's Brexit deal hours after dinner to honour him

The Prime Minister managed to reach a final Cabinet position surrounding the Government's trade policy and desired post-Brexit customs arrangement with the European Union, and crystallised her policy in the Brexit White Paper.

President Donald Trump gave an interview to the British newspaper The Sun ahead of his trip to the country - and it went about as well as you might expect.

Donald Trump has warned Theresa May's Brexit plan will "kill" any future USA trade deal in bombshell comments as the President met the British prime minister in the United Kingdom.

In an interview with Britain's Sun newspaper published late on Thursday, Trump said May's plans for a business-friendly Brexit would leave it too close to the European Union to allow a new trans-Atlantic trade deal to be struck.

He has also said he might speak to Boris Johnson, who quit as foreign secretary over May's plans.

The UK Government has published its long-anticipated Brexit white paper earlier today, proposing the establishment of a free trade area for goods between the UK and the European Union.

After a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit where he provoked a crisis session to force allies to raise their defence spending, Trump landed in Britain having described the closest U.S. ally in Europe as being in turmoil over Brexit.

Before the Sun interview was published, May invoked Winston Churchill as she addressed Trump and business leaders at a black-tie dinner at Blenheim Palace, the grand 18th century country house that was the birthplace of the British World War Two leader.

"With a lot of resignations", Trump told a news conference at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels. "I think they agree with me on immigration", he told reporters in Brussels. May is already believed to be dangerously close to a vote of no confidence by her party.

In a another swipe, Trump also said he would have done the Brexit negotiations "much differently" and claimed the prime minister did not listen to his advice.

Trump came down firmly on the side of the Brexiteers, saying what May proposed would hurt the chances of a future trade deal between the U.K. and the United States. I would actually say that she probably went the opposite way.

"He thought she was great on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation today and is a really terrific person".

Speaking to Express.co.uk, independent MEP Nathan Gill said: "Whatever model we present to the European Union it is likely they will reject it unless they have co-authored it". Trump said Khan has "done a very bad job on terrorism" as he allowed too many immigrants into the city - despite the fact that the Mayor doesn't control migration.

"I think it changed the fabric of Europe and, unless you act very quickly, it's never going to be what it was and I don't mean that in a positive way".

He said "the deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one the people voted on".

Asked if the ex-minister could be in No. 10 one day, he replied: "Well I am not pitting one against the other".

While insisting that he thinks May is a nice person, President Trump dismissed a report from The Washington Post that he thinks of the prime minister as "a bossy schoolteacher".

The UK government's Brexit blueprint "falls far short of what Scotland needs", External Affairs Secretary Fiona Hyslop has said.

At the same time, the document says the United Kingdom would allow citizens to travel freely and without a visa for tourism and temporary business matters and support businesses "to move their talented people". He obviously likes me, and says very good things about me.
