Demonstrators mock Donald Trump; protest his visit to the UK

In the interview, Trump said he would have done Brexit "much differently".

Trump also said the deal that May's government has proposed would "probably kill" any trade agreement with the USA because Washington "would be dealing with the European Union" instead of with the United Kingdom.

Ruddy's glowing descriptions of the dinner and the relationship between Trump and May contrasted sharply with an interview Thursday in the British tabloid The Sun in which Trump criticized May and complimented her opponents. I would actually say that she probably went the opposite way.

Speaking at Chequers, Mr Trump told Mrs May "whatever you do is OK with me" on Brexit, but urged her to "make sure we can trade together".

After Trump's interview was published, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the president "likes and respects Prime Minister May very much", adding that he had "never said anything bad about her".

By the time he'd left on Friday, Mr. Trump had changed course and praised Ms.

In his Sun interview, Mr Trump also said former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson - who disagrees with the PM on Brexit and resigned this week - would make a "great prime minister", adding: "I think he's got what it takes". And his approach has been to say what Donald Trump says and does is unacceptable, and it doesn't reflect the values of London.

Trump said May had ignored his advice on how to negotiate Britain's exit from the European Union.

The president who prides himself on not saying he's sorry did his own version of backtracking at a news conference with May by finding a way to blame his favorite foil for any perceived friction with May, whom he lavished with praise on the heels of questioning her leadership.

"I think we're going to get along very well. It's based on shared values", she said in an interview with Sky News. He furiously backpedaled away the comments on Friday, saying of May's Brexit talks: "Whatever you're going to do is OK with us".

Yasmine: 'What Donald Trump is doing and the things he says can't become normal'.

As Trump met with Prime Minister Theresa May at her country retreat outside the city, the protesters gathered outside embassies, offices and homes carrying signs that read, "Human rights have no border", and "Mother Earth unites us", before marching past the shops of Regent's Street on their way to Piccadilly Circus and finally Trafalgar Square, which the city calls a "centre of national democracy and protest".

She maintained the government's Brexit agreement, which has come under fire from supporters of a "hard Brext" "delivers" on the referendum vote. He's been very nice to me. "He thought she was great on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation today and is a really terrific person".

Trump and May, who were seen holding hands while strolling around the country estate as farm animals brayed in the distance, differed in both substance and style in the news conference.

Mr Trump and his wife, Melania, later had tea with the Queen at Windsor.

"(Queen Elizabeth has) a great and handsome grace about her. He said he would also talk about Ukraine, Syria and nuclear proliferation, calling it the biggest issue.

However his trip to meet Putin is set to be overshadowed by news that a USA federal grand jury has indicted 12 Russian military intelligence officers on charges of hacking the computer networks of 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

On immigration, Trump said, "Allowing the immigration to take place in Europe is a shame". You know, it's interesting because I am a people person.

The lack of divergence on rules in the farming sector is one of the main concerns of Tory MPs opposed to May's plan, and they will see Trump's statement as proof that the Brexit plan will indeed thwart a trade deal.
