Djokovic, Nadal sleep on it at Wimbledon

When Djokovic converted his second set point in the tiebreaker - having saved three of Nadal's - the clock had ticked a couple of minutes past 11.

After winning each of his first four matches in less than two hours and 25 minutes, Nadal needed just about double that-four hours and 48 minutes-to take down Juan Martin del Potro in five sets (7-5, 6-7, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

A 6 hour and 35-minute battle for Greensboro native John Isner ended in defeat Friday at Wimbledon. "Playing like that in those conditions is really tough on both of us", he said.

As the fifth set dragged on and on, the American Isner appeared more visibly exhausted and had to survive more scares on his own serve than Anderson.

"I don't know what to say right now". Between that and the energy-sapper against Isner, it's hard to imagine how the No. 8 seed Anderson will have much left for Sunday's final, his second at a major.

Isner, who said Wimbledon had become "a house of horrors" for him since his 2010 match, had been trying to become the first American to reach the finals since Andy Roddick in 2009.

Today, Nadal, now aged 32 and a 17-times grand-slam champion, can move to within one win of reducing the deficit to two again, which adds to the stakes of his Wimbledon semi-final against Novak Djokovic today.

Kevin Anderson and John Isner began their semi-final contest on Centre Court on Friday. He lost last year's US Open final to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

Kevin Anderson broke John Isner twice to claim the fourth set 6-4 and force a decider after 3-1/2 hours of play. In the end, it finished 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (9-11) 6-4 26-24 in favour of the South African.

The roller-coaster match saw Dabrowski and Xu fight off three match points before tying it at 5-5 in the third set.

But no one expected the longest match played on Centre Court in history, one with a load of nerves.

Reflecting on the gruelling game, Anderson called on grand slam authorities to consider changing the format of matches.

At 24-24, Isner was serving and visibly wilting. Anderson won the opening set before Isner bounced back to take the next two.

The first two sets had taken just under two hours.

The pair have produced some of the greatest matches ever seen - which include memorable Grand Slam finals and career-defining victories.
