Ripley’s Believe It or Not unveils world’s longest fingernails

The exhibit will be on display at the museum starting Wednesday.

Chillal said that while cutting his nails was not an easy decision to make, he finally gave in after learning that his fingernails will be permanently displayed at Ripley's Believe It or Not in Times Square, in New York City, New York.

The teacher said Mr Chillal would never understand what it took to take care of long fingernails and the student set out to prove his teacher wrong, going on to dedicate his life to taking care of his claws.

He was first inspired to grow out nails on his left hand in 1952, when he was 16 years old, after a teacher berated him for accidentally breaking one of hers.

After 66 years of growing them, the man with the world's longest fingernails now has a free hand to work with.

He had made a decision to grow his nails when he was beaten up by his school teacher for breaking the teacher's long nail.

"I don't know whether the teacher is dead now or not but I would definitely like to say that the thing for which you scolded me, I took it as a challenge and I have completed the challenge and now, I am here", he said.

No word on how Chillal is adapting to the lighter load on his left hand, but life just became easier for him in many ways. "Mr. Chillal dedicated his life to something truly remarkable and Ripley's is the flawless home to honor his legacy", said Suzanne Smagala-Potts, a Ripley's representative. Odditorium in Times Square.

For years, he did everything with one hand.

For most his life, Chillal's nails have made his life more hard. The longest nail, from his thumb, is 77.8 inches.

The video, which was shared by Guinness World Records, shows Chillal getting his nails getting cut using an industrial cutter instead of the regular nail clipper.
