Trump lists Russia, EU, China as ‘foes ahead of Putin summit

"The administration has a pretty good policy towards Russian Federation, just the president doesn't agree with it", said Michael McFaul, a former US ambassador to Russian Federation under Obama.

Mark Warner said Sunday that he wants more Americans to accompany President Donald Trump during his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday. "I'm not going with high expectations".

Speaking in an interview with CBS Evening News aired Sunday, the USA president also sought to temper expectations about how much could be achieved. Russia's constitution forbids the extradition of its own citizens.

Some leading congressional Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, want Trump to cancel the summit to send a message to Putin.

Mr Trump also says he intends to pressure Mr Putin over the rapid growth and modernisation of Russia's nuclear arsenal.

Trump professed confidence in the meeting and pointed to previous encounters with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping as examples.

But White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders has said the meeting will go ahead as planned in Helsinki. Trump tweeted. "Much of our news media is indeed the enemy of the people and all the Dems (.) know how to do is resist and obstruct!" "If we could develop a relationship which is good for Russian Federation, good for us, good for everybody, that would be great". "But I certainly, I'll be asking about it", he told Glor.

Trump and his aides have been working through the weekend to soften expectations for tangible results from the Russian Federation meeting. "I think it's ridiculous so I let that be known also this time".

One attempt at interference came hours after Trump, in a July 27, 2016, speech, suggested Russians look for emails that Clinton said she had deleted from her tenure as secretary of state.

The Justice Department on Friday announced the indictment of 12 Russian military officers who are accused of stealing Democratic emails and attempting to interfere in the 2016 US presidential election.

"[Trump] was perfectly prepared to have [the indictment] come before the meeting with Putin, "John Bolton said Sunday on ABC's "This Week"".

Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, dismissed Trump's attack on European countries, saying, "America and the EU are best friends".

The Trump fans, several from the True Finn anti-immigration party, said they wanted to make a show of support in a country where many people have criticized his policies.

"The collective blood pressure between the United States and Russian Federation is off-the-charts high so it's a good thing these presidents are getting together", he said during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press".

"Now, you wouldn't think of the European Union but they're a foe". "I know you'll ask, "Will we be talking about meddling?' And I will absolutely bring that up", he said, but noted: "There won't be a Perry Mason here, I don't think, but you never know what happens, right?"

Trump added that Russian and China are foes as well but in certain respects.

Trump added the European Union has "really taken advantage of us on trade" though this "does not mean that they are bad". We need to talk about it, " Bolton said. They fear the USA president will "walk into the open embrace of Putin".

The leaders' meeting comes as the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election charges a total of 25 Russians in connection.
