Ruby Rose Gets Emotional Talking About Being Cast as Batwoman

Ruby Rose Gets Emotional Talking About Being Cast as Batwoman

And Ruby Rose was the image of joy when she swung by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for an episode that will air Wednesday evening. The news wasn't public at the time, and Rose was anxious she was going to slip up and accidentally tell someone while walking the red carpet, because she "kept spontaneously crying" about her casting.

She said: "I think the reason I kept getting so emotional was that growing up watching TV, I never saw anyone on TV that I can identify with".

As previously reported, Rose will star in The CW's adaptation of the comic book for its connected superhero universe that already includes shows like "The Flash" and "Supergirl". "I kept thinking about, "What are they going to say?' Because they always say, 'What do you have planned next?' I thought: Either I'm going put my foot in it and accidentally say something, or I'm going to just start crying". I feel like I'm probably going to do it now.

Diving into that world for the first time is a wonderful position to be in, and with the show set to spark new interest in the character, now's as good a time as any to provide the lowdown on who Kate Kane is, her origins, and the first things to check it out if you can't get her upcoming show out of your head. I've lived by that motto and the second motto when I came into the industry was, be the person you needed when you were younger.

But what she's especially looking forward to is dressing up as Batwoman, meeting kids at hospitals who will very likely look up to her. "But I'm so thrilled". Batwoman will be the first openly lesbian superhero to lead her own television series should the in-development Batwoman series be picked up by The CW after the character debuts during the Arrowverse crossover this December.

But she has been openly gay in the comics since 2006 when she was reintroduced as a lesbian of Jewish descent.
