United Approach Atletico Over Signing Of Diego Godin

United manager Jose Mourinho spoke earlier in the day to say he was not confident about his chances of signing a player today, however, Sky have revealed that United are in for the Atletico Madrid defender.

Godin is rightly regarded as one of the best centre-backs in world football right now and despite his age, would have been a massive coup for Mourinho's side going forward.

But United appear to still be trying to bring in a top defender with attention suddenly turning to Godin.

The situation all seemed rather complicated until Sky Sports cleared up the situation and it seems Godin's agent used United to bag a pay-rise and new contract. It is time for me to stop thinking about the market.

Today, Manchester United have made a stunning late move for Diego Godin...

Reports have also suggested Godin has a release clause in his Atletico contract worth just £18m.

After failing to come close to an agreement with Tottenham over Alderweireld and with Leicester rejecting advances over a deal for Maguire, United are now being linked with a move for Godin, in a deal that would need to be pulled together quickly if it was to beat the 5pm transfer deadline in England.

"So I will have to focus on the players I have".

Obviously Godin would be a superb short-term addition if United were able to pull it off but it's looking highly unlikely unless things take a drastic change over the next couple of hours. However, the 121-time capped Uruguayan global feels settled in the Spanish capital and enjoys an excellent relationship with his current boss Simeone, which has led to him rejecting the English giants' overtures.
