Thibaut Courtois apologises to Chelsea for going AWOL

TOWN'S Premier League season got off to a losing start against Chelsea.

With the first global break four weeks away, Sarri says that only now can he really get to work, as World Cup stars such as Eden Hazard, Olivier Giroud and N'Golo Kante returned to training just last week.

Kepa had little to do for the opening 20 minutes as Chelsea hogged the ball, but made a hash of an early touch when he passed straight to Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy.

Jorginho then whispered something to Hazard that caused the Belgian to burst out laughing.

N'Golo Kante opened the scoring with a rare strike before Jorginho doubled the lead from the penalty spot on the brink of half time.

Chelsea swooped for Kepa on the penultimate day of the summer transfer window after agreeing to sell want-away Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, has regretted the club's failure to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus.

Sarri says that the next month will be crucial in determining the success of his team adapting to a new system, before Europa League and Carabao Cup games start to pile up.

"Thibaut is such a great goalkeeper and he did his best at Chelsea to bring titles and trophies so it is not a great feeling to lose such a player". I saw our spirit, togetherness and good attitude today, which is what we will need to be competitive this season.

He was at the heart of a counter-attack that produced Chelsea's third goal as he broke from midfield and slipped a pass to Pedro, who beat Hamer with an expert finish. "But I have seen a player who is very happy to stay here, so I think it will be no problem, the new contract".

But the game turned decisively towards the visitors when Chelsea doubled their advantage just before the interval as Marcos Alonso burst into the area and went down under challenge from Christopher Schindler.

Mounie took exception to Jorginho's cheeky penalty, adding: "It was weird". But I think we did have a lot of unlucky situations. "The ref needs to explain that to us because I don't understand why (it was not retaken)".
