'My name's Elba, Idris Elba': Actor responds to James Bond rumors

'My name's Elba, Idris Elba': Actor responds to James Bond rumors

Early Sunday morning, the Luther star tweeted a heavily filtered selfie and wrote, "my name's Elba, Idris Elba" - an obvious nod to 007's signature "Bond, James Bond" line.

Elba, 45, has previously dismissed rumours and said he had not had any discussions with the studio about taking over the role.

This time, however, it's the man himself fuelling the fans, posting a cryptic tweet riffing on the spy's famous catchphrase. The original story came from United Kingdom tabloid The Daily Star, which claimed that director Antoine Fuqua spoke with James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli about implementing a Black James Bond into the franchise.

Elba later downplayed the story with a follow-up tweet, but it won't be enough to stall the conversation.

Craig will reprise the role of Bond, which he has inhabited since 2005, in the 25th Bond film which will be directed by Danny Boyle.

The as-yet unnamed film, understood to be Daniel Craig's final appearance in the role, is due to be released in 2019.

People are once again buzzing about the prospect of Idris Elba playing James Bond.

Former Bond Roger Moore was also forced to deny he made racist comments about Elba in an interview with French media in 2015.

Fans were obviously freaking out, as this is the biggest tease Elba might be stepping into the iconic role yet.

"Running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that?"
