‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin gravely ill, ‘in hospice care’

The soul singer Aretha Franklin was said to be seriously ill and surrounded by family and friends in hospice care yesterday.

"Clive Davis Presents: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin" is scheduled to take place at MSG on November 14th; the only performer confirmed so far seems to be Jennifer Hudson, who is also slated to play Aretha in a biopic for Sony/Tri-Star.

One of Aretha's close friends told TMZ that they were told a week ago to prepare for the worst as she "could go any time".

The Queen of Soul canceled planned concerts earlier this year after she was ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest up.
